Newest Addition To The Financial Ladder...

I'm proud to announce that we have a new addition to the financial ladder. Our new bouncing baby boy started climbing with us on April 20th, 2007 @ 5:09 pm. Mommy and baby are both doing well and are in good health. The first financial related question he makes me ask is, what does a natural birth and a 3 day stay at a hospital cost nowa days?

That's not a subject I normally think about when discussing new babies with family or friends. Is there anyone out there willing to share what it cost them to give birth in a hospital, and what the actual cost was? Hopefully both of my wife's insurance companies will soften the hit a bit...

Congratulations on the new addition.

As for the cost, I remember reading that for most insurance companies, the co-pay for patients after a child birth is around 20% or probably close to $1000. However, I cannot say for certain.

Congrats again, though!

Congrats on your wonderful gift!! So glad to hear baby and mom are doing well.

I want to say that the total bill for my son (who was born in 2001) came in under $5,000. That was for an uncomplicated vaginal birth and an overnight stay in the hospital. I did get an epidural and they had to pump a few drugs into me to help speed things along. I'm also quite certain I probably was charged for things that I didn't get - but at the time I wasn't concerned with auditing the hospital bill (lesson learned - make sure you do that!).

Thankfully, at the time we had excellent health insurance through my husband's employer and it covered 100% so we didn't pay anything out of pocket.

I had no insurance and paid cash for my kids. In the end, after auditing my bills and bring my own supplies etc...I was able to buy and pay for them for about $1500.00

Although, mine were healthy and a natural birth. I used absolutely no drugs, brought my own blue pads, tylenol etc. I did not stay overnight, except with my daughter due to a huge blood loss, so the cost was slightly more for her.

Congratulations on your new family addition. It is worth all the money, to have your family healthy and happy!

Congrats on the new kiddo!

As I recall, when our daughter Hit the Floor about four years ago, it set me back roughly $2,600 in baby-delivery expenses. But that counts all the prenatal visits and everything.

Coulda bought two plasma TVs for that. And you can turn them off. :)
